Foil shaver vs the razor in your bathroom
Same face, two completely different ways of cutting hair. One of them is why you stopped. This part is true of all three kits.
|   | Karv | Razor |
|---|---|---|
Cuts hair at the surface, not under the skin |
||
Blade is shielded, so it never drags across your face |
||
Nothing to learn. No angle, no pass count, no grain to figure out |
||
Works dry. No cream, no sink, no waiting |
||
Safe to go back over the patchy spots and the neck |
||
Replaceable head instead of a cartridge you buy forever |
The bumps come back on the days you skip
Nobody skips because they stopped caring. They skip because the thing is in the wrong room. It is on the bathroom counter and you are already in the car, or it is at home and you are staying at someone else's place.
Two days of that and the neck is back to where it was. That is the whole argument for taking both: one where you get ready, one where you run out of time. The Full Setup costs less than buying them apart, and it is the version guys are still using in month three.
If you are only buying one, buy the double. It is the better shave and it is the one you will reach for.
Three minutes, dry, standing up
Cordless, so it lives on the counter or in the glovebox. Dry face, no cream, short passes against the grain. Go over the cheeks, the jaw, the neck. Done before the song you are listening to finishes.

The questions guys ask first
Single or double. Which one should I get?
Single or double. Which one should I get?
Get the double if you are only buying one. Two screens means twice the cutting surface per pass, so it is faster and it does better on a heavier or coarser face. The single does the same thing with one screen, just slower, and it is pocket size. Most guys who start on the single end up wanting the double for the counter and keeping the single in the car. That is what the Full Setup is.
Why would I want two of the same thing?
Why would I want two of the same thing?
Because the bumps come back on the days you skip, and skipping is almost always a location problem. The shaver is on the bathroom counter and you are already in the car. Two days of that and the neck is back to where it started. One where you get ready, one where you run out of time. The Full Setup costs less than buying them separately.
Is the single a worse shave?
Is the single a worse shave?
Not a worse result, a slower one. Same screen, same mechanism, same reason it does not bury the hair. You are covering less area per pass so it takes a bit longer, and it does not have the pop-up trimmer for your cheek line. On a light face you will not notice much difference.
I have never been good at shaving. Is this hard to use?
I have never been good at shaving. Is this hard to use?
No, and that is most of the point. There is no angle to hold, no pass count, no lather, no timing. Dry face, short passes, go back over anything you missed. The screen sits flat on your skin and does the work for you. Most guys have it figured out on the first try and it takes about three minutes after that.
With the grain or against the grain?
With the grain or against the grain?
Against, in short passes. And here is the part that matters: with a razor that question is a big deal, because going against the grain is what buries the hair and gives you bumps. With a foil there is nothing to bury. The blade sits behind the screen and cuts flush at the surface no matter which direction you move it. You can stop keeping track.
Am I going to cut myself?
Am I going to cut myself?
The blade sits behind a perforated screen and never reaches your skin. Your face only ever touches the screen. That is the same reason a barber will run one over your neckline without thinking twice, and it is why you can go back over a spot you missed instead of guessing.
Why does this work when a better razor did not?
Why does this work when a better razor did not?
Because more blades is not a different mechanism, it is more of the same one. Every cartridge, one blade or five, works by pulling the hair up and cutting it, which leaves the cut end under your skin. That is where the ingrown starts. Switching brands or blade counts does not change that. A foil changes where the cut happens.
Will this stop the bumps?
Will this stop the bumps?
It removes the main cause of them. Bumps and ingrowns start when a blade cuts the hair below the skin line and it grows back into the skin instead of out of it. The foil holds the blades off your face and cuts the hair flush at the surface, so there is nothing buried under there to grow the wrong way. That is why a barber reaches for a foil shaver to finish a fade and not a razor.
Is it as close as a razor?
Is it as close as a razor?
A razor feels closer because it cuts under the skin, and that is exactly what costs you the next three days. A foil shaver cuts at the skin. You get an even, clean face without the tradeoff. If you want glass smooth for one night and do not care what shows up on Wednesday, use a razor.
What about my neck? Nothing works on my neck.
What about my neck? Nothing works on my neck.
The neck is the worst place to drag an open blade. The hair grows in four directions down there, you cannot see what you are doing, and the skin moves. That combination is why your neck is where the bumps show up. A foil rides flat on the skin, so direction stops mattering and you are not steering a blade across a surface you cannot see. Pull the skin tight with your free hand and take it slow the first time.
Do I have to trim first?
Do I have to trim first?
If it is longer than stubble, yes. A foil shaver is a finisher, not a beard trimmer, so it is built to take short hair down to nothing rather than chew through a month of growth. Take the length off first, then use this for the cheeks, the neck and the line.
How do I use it?
How do I use it?
Dry face. No cream, no water. Pull the skin tight, move it against the grain in short passes, and go back over anything you missed. Cheeks, jaw, neck, head. About three minutes once you know your own face. Brush the head out when you are done so the cuttings do not pack in.
Can I use it on my head?
Can I use it on my head?
Yes, and this is where guys are most surprised. Same reason it works on your neck: the foil rides on the skin so you are not dragging an open blade over a surface you cannot see. Go slow around the ears the first time.
Do the foils wear out?
Do the foils wear out?
Yes. The foil and cutter are the parts doing the work, and they dull like any blade. A replacement set is $24.99, swaps by hand, and nothing auto-ships. The single and the double take their own sizes, so order the one that matches.
When does it get here?
When does it get here?
Shipping is free on every order. Delivery normally lands 10 to 14 days out, and the date range shown next to the cart button is the window we hold ourselves to. You get tracking the day it leaves.
What if it is not for me?
What if it is not for me?
Use it for 90 days. If your skin does not get along with it, email us and we refund you. Keep the shaver, do not pay return shipping, do not fill out a form. Your face is the only test that counts, so we made it the only one you have to pass.
Ninety days on your own face
Whichever kit you picked, keep the shaver and get your money back.
Bumps do not show up when you shave. They show up two or three days later, which means one shave proves nothing. Use it every day for ninety days. That is every stage of the cycle, several times over. If your neck is not clear, email us, keep the shaver, and we send your money back. No return shipping and no form to fill out.
That goes for the single, the double, and both together. If you took the Full Setup and only one of them earned its place, tell us and we still refund the whole thing.
